Looking for a green smoothie all the family can enjoy, whatever their age? Here you go ...
My gorgeous little man is 6 months old, has been weaning for a couple of weeks and I figured he was ready for his first green smoothie. I'd never thought to even make them when I have my first two (equally gorgeous) boys but it makes sense, just make it a little thicker and it's like the (exorbitantly priced) first purees you can buy your child. That way I control the fruit:veg ratio and I really do know what's gone in it. And I'm very pleased to say that he LOVED it, wolfed it down (off a spoon), result!!
This recipe will either serve 2 adults or 1 mum, a 9 year old, a 7 year old and a 6 month old ;-)
***NOTE - if you're giving this smoothie to babies under 12 months, only use a squeeze of fresh lime juice, don't use a whole lime - the citric acid in it may well upset their delicate digestion.
1 large handful spinach
1 small frozen banana
1 small avocado
1 small handful blueberries
1 small lime, peeled ***
Add all the prepared ingredients into the blender and mix for 1 minute.
You can also add 2 tbsp of chia seeds (soaked in a little water for 5 minutes) if you wish, I was just playing it safe with the number of ingredients as my baby is only 6 months.
Vary the amount of water you use if you want a thicker or slacker consistency to the smoothie.
